Several merchant vessels in the northern Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman were subjected to "disabling fire" during ongoing military activity in the region, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said on Wednesday.
UKMTO said it had received a report involving several commercial vessels, citing military authorities as the source of the information.
It did not identify the vessels or say who was responsible for the fire.
"UKMTO is unable to confirm if any casualties or environmental impact has occurred at this time," the maritime security agency said.
Authorities were aware of the incidents and investigations were continuing, UKMTO added.
UKMTO advised mariners operating in the area to follow the latest maritime security information and remain alert to the changing security situation.
The advisory was issued on Wednesday after the initial report was received on Tuesday.
