Sometimes, people just know there's something 'off' about a candidate.
Recent news reports have made much clear about Michigan's radical DSA-linked Senate Democrat candidate Abdul El-Sayed having trouble drawing black voters in that state.
Now it comes out that he engaged in some pseudo 'research' that would have made Bull Connor blush:
El Sayed published a paper on the dangers of “interracial mating”??
— Marc Thiessen (@marcthiessen) October 16, 2026
Did he really say that: 'mating' like he was studying apes in the zoo?
According to PJ Media's Catherine Salgado, he certainly did:
U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, a Michigan Democrat, unlicensed doctor, and Egyptian citizen, conducted and published research in 2010 arguing that Arab women were at less risk for preterm birth if they married only Arab men instead of “interethnic mating.” Which is a pretty weird topic to research and write about — if not outright racist.
She tied it to a longtime Arab prejudice against black people, linked to Arab development of the African slave trade.
Technically speaking, investigating whether certain ethnicities are more at risk for certain medical problems is purely scientific, but the language that Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed of Columbia University and his research partner Sandro Galea used in the abstract below is very odd, to say the least, especially in the concluding sentence:
Arab ethnicity (AE) mothers have lower preterm birth (PTB) risk than white mothers. Little is known about the determinants of PTB among AE women or the role of interethnic mating in shaping PTB risk among this group. We assessed the relationship between interethnic mating and risk for PTB, very PTB, and late PTB among AE mothers. Data was collected for all births (N = 21,621) to AE women in Michigan between 2000 and 2005. Self-reported ancestry was used to determine paternal AE as well as to identify AE mothers. We used bivariate chi-square tests and multivariable logistic regression to assess the relationship between paternal non-AE and risk for PTB, very PTB, and late PTB among AE mothers. All analyses were also conducted among non-Arab white mothers as a control. Among AE mothers, paternal non-Arab ethnicity was associated with higher risk of PTB (OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.06, 1.30) and late PTB (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.20, 1.38) compared to paternal Arab ethnicity. Paternal non-Arab ethnicity was not associated with risk for any outcome among non-Arab white mothers. Future studies could assess the causal mechanisms underlying the association between interethnic mating and risk for PTB.in
The willingness to dress up the raw ethnic hate in scientific language, though, is pure V.S. Naipaul territory.
Naipaul was a brilliant 2001 Nobel Prize for Literature laureate originally from Trinidad whose body of work focused on the confusion and resentment of third-world intellectuals and those with such pretensions. It's replete with the pseudoscience of fourth-rate 'doctors' and 'engineers' patheticly seeking to pass themselves off as brighter than actual scientists in the West.
It was all over the third world, actually. I remember attending a "Bolivarian Circle" of Chavista 'education' in a slum in Caracas 20 years ago, and saw aging hippies straight out of the '60s talk about Martians and spaceships, the French Revolutionary Communist Party operative there helpfully translating for me their slovenly gutter Spanish. After the 'lecture' which disgruntled slum dwellers got a check for listening to afterward if they signed the clipboard, the communist buffoons passed around a bottle of rum which they drank pirate-style, and played Pete Seeger revolutionary songs.
It was so ... third world, so Naipaul. And now we see the same phony 'science' from El-Sayed, effectively warning Arab women not to 'mate' with the local African-Americans because it was 'dangerous.'
Seriously, who did he think he would be impressing with such disgustingly racist 'research'? And how did Columbia of all places let that garbage see publication?
Recall also that he had an unnatural obsession with Usha Vance's marriage to J.D. Vance, so this is a recurring pattern with him.
Now we learn that El-Sayed is having trouble drawing black voters.
new polling shows that abdul el-sayed is underperforming with black voters he then goes out to a gas station to do a late night shoot with spicy snacks and gatorade. you can’t make this stuff up https://t.co/eyx0kgCgk7

(See this by AT's J.R. Dunn, too, it's hilarious.)
Black Michiganders aren’t too supportive of Abdul El-Sayed: “Black people are Democrats, and he thinks we’re just gonna vote for him anyway. And I’m like, ‘No, sir, I’m uncommitted.’” https://t.co/OCggxM8ffB

Former Black Democrat city councilwoman in Michigan announces she is voting REPUBLICAN for the FIRST TIME in her life, backing Mike Rogers over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. “I couldn’t in my right mind vote for this guy…his ideas don’t align with what I think is best.” “I started doing my research on Mike Rogers. I’m a staunch Democrat…my policies align with Rogers. He’s about the conglomerate of people, not just a select few.” Abdul El-Sayed is not for Michigan or America.

🚨 BREAKING: A black Michigan official just went FULL RED PILL MODE saying he's voting for Mike Rogers over Abdul El Sayed for Senate "Men lie, women lie, numbers DON'T! [...] Our income is below our competitors, our education is dropping, income basis dropping, housing crisis, ALL UNDER DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP." "It's a no-brainer when it comes to Mike Rogers over El Sayed." "Do your research...Rogers is just straightforward." — Marcus Bowan LET'S GO! 👏🏻 Rogers is stunning the fake news. Democrats have held Michigan's governor's mansion since 2019 and both of its Senate seats since 2001 Rogers came within roughly 19,000 votes of ending that streak against Elissa Slotkin in 2024. If Abdul is tanking among the most CRUCIAL Dem voting bloc, he can win this!

The Guardian noticed, and imagined that he wasn't mentioning blacks enough in his speeches because he was such a racial universalist.
A Washington Post-Schar School poll released last month found that among likely Black voters, 83% said they wanted Democrats to control the Senate yet only 67% backed El-Sayed. His campaign reps attribute some of this gap to a heavily financed onslaught of negative ads run against him in the primaries, and they’re desperately trying to undo the harm.
But El-Sayed is attempting to do so in a novel, and risky, way: employing political universalism to focus on a common set of issues that he believes will be broadly resonant rather than focusing on the specific, sectarian and uniquely differentiated interests of the disparate groups huddled under the Democrats’ big tent.
In explaining his strategy, El-Sayed said, “Democratic politics too often tries to pander to folks on their differences rather than to bring us together across our similarities.” He continued: “I want to campaign on those things that all of us need and deserve in our lives.”
It’s a lofty ideal in principle – especially for older Black voters who might be more accustomed to direct appeals. But in practice it means that group-specific concerns go unacknowledged: the “Priorities” section on his campaign website doesn’t mention the names of minority groups or the words “racial” and “racism”.
With the advent of this 'research' paper, it may well be that he just doesn't like blacks, any more than he likes Mackinac Island.
At this point, black people should avoid El-Sayed like a bad smell. He's starting to emerge as a full blown racist and that isn't good news for them, or anyone else. I hope this pseudo-research finishes him off politically.
