Israel is investigating whether Iran was behind the attempted hijacking of Flydubai flight FZ1073, i24NEWS reported Thursday, saying the Mossad and Shin Bet are leading the probe.
The investigation is examining whether the Omani co-pilot, who had worked for Flydubai for only eight months, may have been planted inside the airline and who may have directed him.
Israel is also examining how a pilot carrying an Omani passport was permitted to operate a flight to Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the co-pilot had undergone religious radicalization, though i24NEWS reported that assessment came from a source in a Persian Gulf Arab state rather than an independent Israeli determination.
Israel is waiting for the suspect to be transferred from Saudi Arabia to the UAE, where it has closer intelligence ties and expects to gain better access to the investigation, i24NEWS said.
