Saudi Arabia is planning a "major" offensive against the Houthis in Yemen in the coming days, Axios reported. According to two United States officials, the Saudi military has prepared the operation for weeks and has received authorization from the government. It will involve Saudi airstrikes providing support for Yemeni ground forces loyal to the Yemeni government.
The report claimed that the US has once again declined to get directly involved in the Saudi offensive, while still providing intelligence and targeting data. The officials claimed that the US Central Command opposes strikes against the Houthis and sees them as a "distraction from its focus on Iran." However, they added that the US could join the operation if it "runs into problems."
