The UK Metropolitan Police announced on Friday that two men have been charged with terrorism offenses following an investigation into an alleged plot to target the Jewish community in Manchester.
The police said that two Iranians, Salam Ahmadyan and Rahman Salehi, were arrested in Manchester on September 20 and charged with preparing to commit an act of terrorism or assisting another, a possible overseas third party that may be in Iran, to commit such an act.
"These are extremely serious charges and allegations, and have come about from a joint CTP [Counter Terrorism Policing] investigation, working closely with our partners in the security services ... I would like to reiterate that we do not believe there to be any ongoing threat to the public in relation to this matter, but as always, we would ask that people remain vigilant and contact police with any concerns," Senior National Coordinator for CTP, Vicki Evans, stated.
